To serve the state of Delaware by establishing, implementing, and sustaining volunteers to strengthen DSAMH initiatives, improve community resilience and support appropriate mental health response to disaster.

DMRC Shelter Tech

A training designed to help prepare non-medical volunteers to support nurses and general functions of a shelter nurse station. Shelter Tech training is a 2-part opportunity, with the first part offered online.

Shelter Tech Prerequisite Training is an online training that must be viewed prior to attending the “hands-on” Shelter Tech training. A worksheet/study guide is available to print and utilize for notes during the on-line viewing. Upon completion of the video please click onto the link for the Shelter Tech Prerequisite Completion Survey and answer all questions.

Shelter Tech Training is a hands-on experience for non-medical volunteers to practice shelter support skills: assist with documentation and administrative duties; patient care and handling (i.e. safely assist patients into beds/wheelchairs); effective communication; and maintaining a safe and clean environment. Participants hear from panelists as they share their shelter experiences and provide insight into what a shelter tech can expect when deployed.
